Krav Maga

Krav Maga was developed in the 1930s by Imi Lichtenfeld, a Hungarian born Jewish martial artist and boxer who grew up in Bratislava. As antisemitic violence increased across Europe, Lichtenfeld began adapting his boxing and wrestling background into a practical self defense system to help members of the Jewish community defend themselves against street attacks and riots. His approach focused on simple, instinctive movements and techniques that could be learned quickly and used effectively under stress.

In the 1940s, after immigrating to Israel, Lichtenfeld refined the system while training the Israeli Defense Forces. Krav Maga was designed for real world combat situations, emphasizing neutralizing threats quickly, defending against armed attackers, and using natural body reactions rather than complex forms. Over time the system expanded beyond the military and was adapted for civilians, law enforcement, and security professionals. Today Krav Maga is practiced worldwide and is known for its focus on practical self defense, situational awareness, and decisive action in dangerous situations.

At The Forge Martial Arts Academy, students train under the Savage Krav Maga affiliation, a modern system built on the core principles of traditional Krav Maga while emphasizing pressure tested techniques and realistic training. Classes focus on practical self defense skills such as situational awareness, striking, defending against common street attacks, and responding to threats involving weapons or multiple attackers. The goal at The Forge is not just to teach techniques, but to build confidence, resilience, and the ability to respond effectively when it matters most.
